Nikoletta Karastathi

is an architect, lecturer, and PhD candidate at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, funded by the London Arts and Humanities Partnership (LAHP). With a background in both industry and academia, she has worked at award-winning practices in Newcastle and London, taught at Edinburgh, Newcastle, Bristol, and Cardiff, and previously led the RIBA Northeast Research and Innovation Forum. Currently, she is undertaking a placement at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), where she is exploring sustainable design and material practices for exhibition design.

At UCL, Nikoletta teaches at Design for Manufacture and Design for Performance and Interaction, focusing on sustainable design practices through materiality, computation, and narrative. She has presented her work at conferences across Europe and the United States, and her work have been showcased at events such as the London Design Festival, Dutch Design Week, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts, and Milan Design Week.

Her research explores the intersections of architecture, textiles, computation, and material programmability, weaving together myth and science to reimagine contemporary design methodologies towards more situated and ecological practices.
